On the Tuesday night prior to Thanksgiving, a group of delightful ladies gathered in our design studio, ready to learn the basics of holiday wreath decorating. We focused on new skills, like bow tying and construction technique, but mostly what was gained was a great evening of fun. It was a wonderful way to start the holiday season.

Fortified with hot apple cider from a secret family recipe (found below!), ginger snaps, and other sweet treats, we began an evening of laughter and learning.

Starting with the most intimidating aspect: bow making—and starting again—we then moved on to “fluffing” the faux wreath. This is the technique of twisting and pulling up the wire branches to give it a more natural appearance.

Next we added fresh cedar to bring the wreath to life. Each piece was inserted into the wreath and secured by wiring it to a faux branch.  The fragrance from the wintergreens is enough for awhile, but to prolong that fresh cut aroma, we wired a scented ornament by Sentsicles™ to the back of the wreath.

Moving on, three different sticks of faux berries and other greens were wired to each other and then attached to the wreath, again using wire.

The bow, three twig balls, and a Swedish-inspired ornament added a final rustic touch.

After another mug of cider and a quick group picture, our merry wreath makers journeyed home, ready to deck the halls with holiday cheer.

Fa la la la la la la!
